PTML Nigeria Successfully Transship 5,489 Made-in-China Vehicles Destined For Europe And Africa
PTML Nigeria becomes major logistics hub after transshipping Chinese-built vehicles destined for Europe and Africa.
Terminal operator said it received a Grimaldi vessel in July, which arrived at Tin-Can with 5,489 brand new Chinese-built vehicles.
PTML said all the vehicles were discharged in under 3 days and reloaded within a week onto ships bound for Europe, African countries.
Its operational excellence, security and state-of-the-art infrastructure were some of the reasons why it was selected, according to PTML.
The next Grimaldi vessel from China, MV Viking Queen, expected to arrive at PTML on Sept 25th, followed by MV Great Abidjan on Oct 20th.
Nigeria’s Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML), West Africa’s largest roll-on roll-off (RoRo) multipurpose port terminal, has emerged a major logistics hub for the transshipping of Chinese-built vehicles destined for ports across Europe and Africa.
This group-breaking achievement began in July after the terminal operator received a Grimaldi vessel named ‘Grande Houston’, which arrived at the Tin-Can Island Port to transship about 5,489 brand new Chinese-built vehicles.
“The development marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian port industry, as it is the first time a port in West Africa has received such a large quantity of new vehicles discharged by a single vessel,” PTML said in a statement.
According to operator, all the Chinese-built vehicles were discharged from ‘Grande Houston’ in under three days and reloaded within a week onto ships bound for various ports in Europe and other African countries.
“Most importantly, these new vehicles, loaded in China, were destined for ports in Europe and other African countries from the PTML terminal at the Tincan Island Port, Lagos,” the firm stated, noting that the historic feat demonstrates its efficiency and capability.
The terminal’s operational excellence, security and state-of-the-art infrastructure were some of the reasons why it was selected, according to the Managing Director of PTML Nigeria, Ascanio Russo.
“For the first time, China and Nigeria would be connected by a dedicated RORO service, offering a fast and efficient route for all importers of rollable cargo, including cars, vans, trucks, and plants.”
“This dedicated RORO service is faster than any existing container or general cargo vessel, with a transit time between Shanghai and Lagos of less than 25 days, and it is the only RORO service from China,” he added.
The next Grimaldi vessel from China, the MV Viking Queen, is expected to arrive at PTML terminal this month on September 25th, followed by the MV Great Abidjan on October 20th, according to Russo.
