Russia Will Use Former Toyota Plant That Makes Camry And RAV4 To Produces Aurus Luxury Cars
Russia to use former Toyota Plant at St. Petersburg to start production of its Aurus-branded luxury cars this year.
Aurus started the production of Aurus-branded vehicles at its plant in Yelabuga, Tatarstan, in May 2021.
The company is known for producing the official Russian presidential car, the Aurus Senat L700 limousine.
Toyota officially closed its plant in St. Petersburg on 23 September 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The former Toyota plant at St. Petersburg opened on 21 December 2007 and it produces Camry and the RAV4 until March 2022.
Aurus, the first Russian producer of top-class cars, will start the production of luxury cars at the former Toyota Motors assembly plant (TMMR) in St. Petersburg before the end of 2024 ahead of starts of sales in 2025.
“Before the end of the year [we will start production],” acting Deputy Prime Minister and Industry and Trade Minister, Denis Manturov, told TASS.
“It was handed over a long time ago,” Manturov said when asked whether the former Toyota plant which produces Camry and the RAV4 has been transferred to the Aurus carmaker.

In February, Manturov told TACC that Aurus would establish production of a new line of business class cars at the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg together with a foreign partner.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR) officially closed its plant in St. Petersburg on 23 September 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 1 March 2022.
Owned by Toyota Motor Corporation, the former Toyota plant opened on 21 December 2007 with the production of the sixth generation Toyota Camry. The plant produces Camry and the RAV4 until March 2022.
