Governor Sanwo-Olu applauds LASPA’s ‘On-street Parking Scheme’ aimed at Reducing traffic congestion in Lagos.

During LASPA’s inaugural Stakeholders’ Forum, he said that LASG will be more innovative in addressing traffic issues.

LASPA boss said demand for parking spaces in Lagos State has intensified, impacting traffic flow and road safety.

She revealed that with 1.2 million registered vehicles, there is approximately 224 vehicles per kilometre of road space. 





The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has applauded the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) for its concept of the ‘On-Street Parking Scheme’ aimed at significantly alleviating traffic congestion within the State.

Speaking during the inaugural Stakeholders’ Forum of LASPA held on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu told major stakeholders in the transport sector to work hand-in-hand with his administration for the success of the new parking scheme.

The Governor explained that the newly approved On-Street parking scheme aims to curb indiscriminate roadside parking and create additional parking spaces in high-traffic areas by LASPA through a concessionaire arrangement with the private sector.

Sanwo-Olu underscored the need to implement more innovative strategies outlined in the Lagos State Transport Master Plan, including the establishment of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) in 2021.

“The theme of this forum, ‘Parking in Lagos, The Journey So Far – Assessing the Social and Economic Impact of the Industry’, aptly captures the essence of our gathering today. We are here to discuss the implementation of the Lagos State Parking Policy and other strategies adopted to regulate parking in the state.

“We have adopted a model that ensures a win-win situation between the State and Local Governments. The On-Street parking scheme will benefit both the government and residents, promoting efficient traffic management and enhancing the overall transport experience in Lagos”, Sanwo-Olu explained.





Also speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu said that the launch of the On-Street parking scheme is a significant step by the agency in addressing parking challenges across Lagos State.

She revealed that with over 1.2 million registered vehicles and approximately 224 vehicles per kilometre of road space, the demand for parking spaces in the commercial nerve centre has intensified, impacting traffic flow and road safety.

She maintained that parking management remains an integral part of the Government’s efforts to enhance traffic management and transportation, being the cornerstone of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda.

While urging all stakeholders to collaborate in the effective implementation of the Lagos State Parking Policy, she emphased the importance of concerted efforts to rid Lagos of parking-induced gridlocks.
