The classic Amazon and the new XC60 Crossover SUV, two Volvo’s bestsellers separated by 52 years.

Amazon, named after the female warriors in Greek mythology, is a mid-sized car manufactured from 1956 to 1970.

From 1956 to 1970, 667,791 units of the Amazon models were produced, including 234,653 four-door models.

Amazon models are the first cars to feature the three-point seat belts as standard equipment.

The XC60 compact luxury crossover SUV has been Volvo’s best selling car since 2009, with sales increasing every year.

The second generation Volvo XC60 SUV (released in 2017) has continued to set new sales records.

XC60 introduced City safety – a driver support system that prevents vehicle-on-vehicle collisions below 30 km/h.

Volvo Motors has shared a picture of the classic Amazon and the modern XC60 Crossover SUV, which are the Swedish automaker’s two bestsellers from different generations.

Over 50 years separates the classic Volvo Amazon (first known as Amason before name change) from the XC60 compact luxury crossover SUV, launched into the market in 2008.

But the Amazon models will best be remembered as the first car to feature the three-point seat belts as standard equipment after Volvo became the world’s first manufacturer to provide front seat belts as standard equipment in 1959.
