Thief Finally Arrested After Evading Police With A Rotating License Plate On His Mercedes - autojosh

Thief finally arrested after evading police in California with a James Bond-style rotating license plate on his Mercedes-Benz.

In addition, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has a gas siphoning device used for stealing fuel from another vehicle into its tank.

The rotating plate is similar to the the one which the NPF and FRSC recently banned, noting that criminals could use it to commit crime.

Last week, the Law Enforcement Agencies in the country maintained that every vehicle in Nigeria must be registered and must have a single number, not many numbers, following a trending video which shows a Toyota Highlander SUV with multiple number plates.

In a video shared, the Toyota Highlander SUV was seen flipping the existing number plate to show another piece of number plate on the other side.

Rotating Plate

Reacting to the video, the police said criminals could use the rotating number plate to evade arrest. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), whose job is to issue number plates to vehicles, also kicked against the use of the rotating number plate.

“The attention of the FRSC has been drawn to a video circulating on social media which displayed a vehicle circulating with rotational number plates.

“The vehicle number plates on display are: KUJ-304BV, while the other side which was automatically flipped carries a number tagged presidency with the following details, 01B-266FG,” a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem, read partly.

Following the incident, Autojosh did a little research, and we discovered a criminal using a similar type of rotating number plate was apprehended by police in California, USA, back in May.

After a tip from an eagle-eyed resident, who recognized that the Mercedes-Benz C-Class had been involved in Burglary, the police swung into action and the suspect was apprehended.

In a statement, the police said that “the suspect vehicle was something out of @007 movie.“

“Officers discovered a device that would flip the vehicle’s license plate with the push of a button.

In addition to the rotating number plate, the police said that the car was also fitted with a gas siphoning device that transfer (or let’s say steal) fuel from another vehicle into the car’s gas tank.

The officers said that the Mercedes-Benz also contained burglary tools, evidence of ID theft, as well as a stolen property. During the investigation, Detectives were able to recover a car previously stolen from Irvine.

Two people were arrested – Yasmine Kambour (37) and Chris Huynh (44). Both of them were booked on the following charges : vehicle burglary, vehicle theft, identity theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.
