Formula race car’s seating position has evolved significantly over the years with the cars from early years featuring a more upright position like the ones seen in conventional vehicles.
Today’s Formula 1 race cars boasts a distinct sitting position where the F1 drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen sit in a reclined position, with their feet raised and legs stretched out.
Mandated by F1 technical regulations, the unique seating position plays a crucial role in the driver’s comfort and safety, as well as the car’s overall performance.
“The seating position of F1 drivers is meticulously designed to optimize safety, control, and aerodynamics,” according to F1 chronicle.
“This low and reclined position helps in reducing the car’s center of gravity, offering better stability during the race. It also aids in protecting the driver during crashes by distributing forces more evenly across the body.”
