Report: Updated Ferrari Purosangue To Lose Its V12 Engine
While most of the automotive world is still recovering from the shock caused by the first electric Ferrari, the team from Maranello is working intensively on a renewed edition of the Purosangue launched almost four years ago. According to spy photos and professional “renderings”, the first SUV of the Italian brand will not have a significantly different exterior design, so attention is focused on speculations about the powertrain.
The question of all questions is whether the naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 will remain under the long front hood. Like other manufacturers, Ferrari is pressing ever stricter emission standards, so it would not be impossible to replace the 12-cylinder with, say, an electrified V6 engine like the one that powers the hypersport F80. Knowing the direction in which the world of cars is going today and that this is a model that more than others in the range is intended for daily driving, the idea of a plug-in hybrid system does not sound unreasonable.
With a large enough battery, an SUV with a fairly long electric range would allow quiet driving around town and then powerful performance on the open road and highway.
However, there is a more desirable alternative solution. Ferrari boss Benedetto Vigna has already announced the introduction of two new models by the end of this year, and although he hasn’t revealed more details, it’s easy to imagine that it will be two variants of the renewed Purosangue: the existing 725 hp V12 variant and another, electrified with a hybrid V6 engine. Be that as it may, and whatever they prepare in Maranello, it’s good to know that in a few months, two more new Ferrari premieres await us.
