LASEMA : Three dead as overspeeding Mercedes SUV rams into a stationary container truck, bust into flames.
Incident occurred on Sunday night May 26th at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo inward Oshodi Expressway.
LASEMA revealed the driver of the container truck fled the scene immediately the incident occurred.
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and two occupants were burnt to death on Sunday night following a crash with a stationary truck at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo inward Oshodi Expressway.
A statement by the Lagos state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Monday May 27th revealed that the Mercedes-Benz SUV collided with the truck due to overspeeding.
“The impact of the collision resulted in a fire outbreak with passengers trapped inside the Benz car. Further enquiry revealed the driver of the truck fled the scene immediately the incident occurred. Unfortunately, three adult males were burnt beyond recognition.
“After about 5 hours of painstaking rescue and recovery operation, the inferno was finally put out and dampening down concluded by the Agency’s Fire Unit in collaboration with the LASG Fire and Rescue Service.
“Recovery of the truck and the Benz off the road so as to avert a secondary incident has commenced with the Agency’s heavy-duty equipment, Crane and low-bed
“In Attendance: LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire, LASG Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, LASTMA and NPF are responders on ground working better together to salvage the situation.”
