Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Has Arrived In Japan

Last October saw the premiere of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, the spiritual successor to the legendary Toyota BJ from 1951. Due to its square design and numerous similarities, the FJ version was called the “small” Land Cruiser, an SUV also known by the addition of the Prado designation. Now the Land Cruiser FJ has arrived in Japan, where it is sold at a price of ¥4,500,100 (€24,380).

The FJ is produced in Thailand, with monthly sales of 1,300 units planned in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The Land Cruiser FJ is based on the upgraded IMV platform, which is also the basis for the Hilux Champ pickup, which was introduced 2.5 years ago. The total length of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ for the Japanese market is 4,575 mm, it is 1,855 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The volume of the trunk is 795 liters, or 1,607 liters when the rear bench is folded down. Otherwise, the second row of seats can be moved forward or backwards to provide more space for passengers or their luggage.

The Land Cruiser FJ, like the current Land Cruiser, has two design variants, both based on a boxy, retro-style body with unpainted plastic trim around the edges. On the “face” of one variant are LED daytime running lights in the shape of the letter C, while the front of the other features round daytime running lights and additional rectangular direction indicators on the sides. On the “tail” there are vertical rear lights and a spare wheel on the trunk lid that opens laterally.

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is powered by a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which in Japan produces 163 hp and a maximum torque of 246 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission; the drive is on all four wheels. The compact SUV is standardly equipped with a package of Toyota Safety Sense safety systems (including blind spot monitoring), a virtual instrument panel and a 12.3-inch screen of the infotainment system.
