US President Donald Trump on Sunday completed a ceremonial lap around Daytona International Speedway track in his armoured presidential limousine – known as “The Beast” – to open this year’s 2025 Daytona 500.

Trump attended Sunday’s Daytona 500 for the second time as president, calling the opening event of the NASCAR series a unifying event that possesses a spirit that will “fuel America’s Golden Age”.

“From the roar of the engines on the track to the echo of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ soaring through the stands, the Daytona 500 is a timeless tribute to the speed, strength and unyielding spirit that make America great,” Trump said in a presidential message released.

As he did during his first appearance in 2020, Trump’s presidential motorcade, including the Beasts and a decoy, led the drivers on ceremonial laps around the circuit ahead of start of racing events.

The Beast is equipped with Kevlar-lined tyres, to keep it going when shot, and a foam-sealed fuel tank to prevent explosions. Inside, it is equipped with a state-of-the-art communication system along with the protection of a secure oxygen system and a supply of blood in case of injury.
