Two Second-hand Cars, One House, Other Assets Declared by Senegal’s New President, Bassirou Faye
One house, two second-hand vehicles, other assets declared by Senegal’s president, Bassirou Faye, ahead of election.
In a publication release on March 22nd, he said he owned two vehicles, a 2012 Ford Focus and a Ford Explorer SUV.
According to the release, both vehicles were acquired second-hand in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
The 44 year old won the March 24th election with 54.3 percent of the vote, just few days after his release from prison.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye was sworn in as Senegal’s fifth president on Tuesday April 2nd, an event attended by dozen heads of state and regional representatives, including Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu.
The 44 year old, who is now Africa’s youngest democratically elected president, won the March 24th election with 54.3 percent of the vote, just few days after his release from prison.
“In electing me, the Senegalese people have decided on a break with a past,” Faye told journalists in his first public appearance since the election. “I promise to govern with humility and transparency.”

Ahead of the election, the ex-tax officer released a declaration of his assets and liabilities since October 2007 to show transparency and called on other candidates to do the same.
In the publication release on March 22nd titled “Heritage Declaration of the Candidate Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye,” Faye said he owned a house and a land, while his bank accounts totaled roughly $6,600.
In addition, he said he owned two vehicles, a 2012 Ford Focus compact car and a Ford Explorer Platinum SUV. According to the release, both vehicles were acquired second-hand in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
