Surprise Surprise Volkswagen ID.4 Wins World Car Of The Year Award
Congratulations to Volkswagen and the I.D4 electric vehicle for winning the prestigious World Car of the year award. The VW I.D4 defeated 2 other car (Honda e and Toyota Yaris) to win it. Volkswagen was obviously pleased with the result and Thomas Ulbrich, board member for development at the Volkswagen brand, noted. “The World Car of the Year award marks a great success for our entire ID. team”. He further added. “We have succeeded in developing a car that starts the system change to e-mobility in the world’s most important segment of compact SUVs and also offers excellent everyday usability.”
To be eligible, vehicles must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units per year, must be priced below the luxury-car level in their primary markets. In addition, the cars must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets, on at least two separate continents, between May 1, 2020, and May 1, 2021. The I.D4 is the 4th VW car to win the award after the Golf (2009,2013), the UP! (2012), and the Polo in 2010.
As for other World Car Award winners, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class took top honours for World Luxury Car. The flagship sedan’s reputation as the global standard for luxury and technology endures with the latest generation, which debuted in September 2020. Another non-surprise is the Porsche 911 Turbo winning the World Performance Car award, packing 572 hp in non-S trim and capable of hitting 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. Other winners include the Honda e for World Urban Car, which is available in European and Japanese markets. The Land Rover Defender won for World Car Design of the Year. Congratulations once again to the Volkswagen ID.4 for winning the world car of the year.
