Volkswagen has introduced the new Atlas Cross Sport GT concept. The latest in a string of enthusiast models, the concept is based on the Atlas Cross Sport SEL Premium R-Line and features a host of styling and performance upgrades.

The concept started life as an SEL Premium R-Line model before Orr worked his magic. The exterior changes include wild 22-inch ABT Sport HR Aerowheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan Sport V105 UHP tires, ST XTA Plus 3 coilover suspension, colour-matched springs, and Tarox eight-piston front brakes. Completing the look, all of the chrome pieces are replaced with gloss black, and the exterior is painted Eisvogelblau (Kingfisher Blue), a colour only available on select VW models in Europe. To get this hue on an Atlas, VW hand-painted it in Chatanooga.

The sporty styling continues in the cabin as the concept has four Recaro Sportster CS seats with microfiber and faux leather upholstery. They’re joined by a custom shifter, blue seat belts and special floor mats. The concept also has a flat-bottom steering wheel and a rear centre console, which houses a safe as well as additional USB charging ports.

Under the hood, the Atlas Cross Sport has a modified version of the EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Golf R. Volkswagen says it has a new turbo and an additional radiator for cooling generates just over 300 horsepower. This power is used via VW’s seven-speed DSG gearbox and all four wheels through VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
