Volkswagen has recalled 2024–2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models due to a software defect that can cause the rearview camera to remain blank. Owners should contact a dealership for a free software update and rely on mirrors until the repair is completed. The campaign (NHTSA 26V473000 / dealer code 91TV) affects vehicles where electrical disruptions may trigger the display failure.

The campaign appears in NHTSA records as 26V473000, while Volkswagen dealers know it as code 91TV. The VINs tied to this software defect are already live in federal and manufacturer recall tools, and owner notification letters are expected to start landing in mailboxes around September 18, 2026.

Rearview Camera Software Glitch

The defect stems from a low-voltage electrical disruption that intermittently interrupts the rearview camera signal when shifting into reverse, causing the display to remain blank. Investigators identified this power fluctuation, rather than cold weather, as the primary cause.

Because federal regulations require a functional rearview camera, this defect poses a non-compliance safety risk. No crashes or injuries have been reported, and no stop-drive orders have been issued. This recall mirrors similar software-related camera fixes recently conducted by Honda and Volvo.

Until the software update is complete, Volkswagen advises owners to use side mirrors and shoulder checks if the rearview camera fails to activate. This mirrors standard protocols used by Volvo and Honda for similar camera-related recalls.
