Dubai Police said these penalties targets reckless drivers who pose a threat to their own safety and the safety of others.
About 855 vehicles were impounded by the police for jumping red lights in the emirate the last seven months.
During the same period, the police recorded 51 accidents, which claimed two lives and left 73 injured.
The Dubai Police Department in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has shared a video showing eight shocking instances of motorists failing to stop at red lights, which resulted in accidents at traffic junctions.
To warn offending motorists to desist from the acts that not only pose a threat to their own safety but that of others, the police department also released the heavy fines attached to jumping a red lights.

As per the traffic law, jumping a red light is punishable with a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points added to driver’s traffic record. In addition, motorist who jumps a red light will need to pay Dh50,000 (N10.3 Million) to get the seized vehicles released after 30-day impoundment.
According to the department, “These penalties are in accordance with Decree No. 30 of 2023, which addresses traffic violations and vehicle impoundment, targeting reckless drivers who pose a threat to their own safety and the safety of others.”
About 855 vehicles were impounded for jumping red lights in the emirate the last seven months, according to Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the General Department of Traffic.
During the same period, the police recorded 51 accidents, which claimed two lives and left 73 injured.
“Over 13,875 violations were issued for running red lights during the same period in the current year. About 855 vehicles were impounded over red light violations.”
“The impact of collisions at traffic signals is intensified due to the angle — significantly increasing the risk of death or severe harm.”
