953,099 (+124%) passengers traveled via Nigerian rail in Q1 2022 while 422,393 (-25%) traveled in Q2, according to NBS.

N2.07b (+132%) was received from passengers in Q1 while N598.73m was generated in Q2, a decrease of – 44.76% from Q2 2021.

N71.76m was collected in Q1 2022 as revenue from goods/cargos, compared to N18.89m in the first quarter of 2021.

Revenue generated from goods in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to N86.00 million (+14.34%).





The latest rail transportation data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that a total of 953,099 passengers travelled via the rail system in the first quarter (Q1) of 2022.

This represents a growth rate of 124.54% from the 424,460 passengers reported in the corresponding quarter of 2021.

In addition, 32,139 tons of goods were transported in the first quarter of 2022, a growth rate of 254.30% compared to 9,071 tons reported in the first quarter of 2021.

In terms of revenue generation, N2.07 billion was received from passengers in Q1 2022, which is 132.82% growth compared to N892.46 million generated in the first quarter of 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, N71.76 million was collected as revenue from goods/cargos, compared to N18.89 million collected in the first quarter of 2021.





Other receipts grew by 619.34% in the first quarter of 2022, recorded at N57.92 million from N8.05 million in the first quarter of 2021.

In the second quarter of 2022, 422,393 passengers travelled via the rail system, which is a declined of 25.29% compared to the 565,385 passengers that traveled in the second quarter of 2021.

Revenue generated from passengers was N598.73 million (-44.76%) while revenue generated from goods in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to N86.00 million (+14.34%).

Other income receipts stood at N49.72 million, an increase of 988.92% from the N4.56 million recorded in the same period of the preceding year.
