SSC Admits Its 1,750-hp Tuatara Hypercar Didn't Reach The Claimed Top Speed Of 331 mph In October - autojosh

Newly crowned “World’s Fastest Car”, SSC Tuatara, set to get a ‘Little Brother’ that could compete with McLaren 720S and Ferrari F8 Tributo.

Unlike 1750HP SSC Tuatara, priced between $1.6m and $1.9m, its ‘Little Brother’ will have 600-700 HP and priced betw. $300-400k.

On Monday, SSC announced that its 1,750 horsepower Tuatara supercar is now officially the “World’s Fastest Production Car” around after achieving a pair of record-setting runs on October 10th.

The Tuatara was driven in both directions on a seven-mile stretch of Highway in Nevada, setting speeds of 301.07 mph and 331.15 mph, achieving a fastest two-way average speed of 316.11 mph.

Now, the Founder and CEO of SSC North America, Jerod Shelby, has revealed the company is planning to launch a cheaper model that will be sold alongside the new king of speed demon, Tuatara.

Unlike the 1750-horsepower SSC Tuatara, that is priced between $1.6m and $1.9m, its ‘Little Brother’ will have 600-700 HP and priced betw. $300-400k.

“We haven’t been interested in an SUV, but we have had a drawing board over the last few years with what we call the ‘Little Brother Project,”

“[It] would be a car that looks very much like the Tuatara, but it would be in the 600 to 700 horsepower range, and sit in a price point where a much larger percentage of the population can afford [it]. We’re talking a $300,000 to $400,000 car.”

Jerod Shelby made this revelation while speaking with the media following the SSC Tuatara’s record-breaking top speed run.

With a price tag between $300,000 and $400,000, the SSC’s Tuatara’s ‘Little Brother’ could compete with the likes of fastselling cars like the McLaren 720S and Ferrari F8 Tributo.
