Ford Adds Another Pickup In Its Lineup In New The 2022 Maverick (Photos)
Ford has introduced another pickup to compete with the like of the Hyundai Santa Cruz called the Maverick. The 2022 Ford Maverick fit in most garages or negotiate parking lots all these are due to its compact size. Despite being based on the Bronco Sport and riding on a unibody structure, the Maverick looks like a pickup truck with its straight lines, right angles, and blunt front end with LED headlights. The four-door cab delivers a traditional pickup roofline that ends at a 4.5-footbed.
The new Maverick is the baby of Ford’s truck family. How small you ask? At 199.7 inches long and 68.7 inches high, the new unibody truck is 11.1 inches shorter and 2.1 inches lower than the Ranger, which up until now was the smallest member of the lineup. Ford believes that the Maverick will attract entry-level customers looking for a more practical vehicle and even those who never before considered a truck.
Inside, the Maverick is a blend of Escape and Bronco Sport styling cues, with a few unique touches to set it apart. Materials are on the hard-wearing and plasticky side, but the design is interesting and attractive. The standard infotainment system is an 8-inch widescreen unit that is retained in upper trim levels, albeit with more capability (navigation, advanced Sync features) backing it up. The interior is replete with storage bins and cubbies, and there’s even a large under-seat storage bin beneath the second row with an easy-to-clean finish for items that are too precious for the bed, but too dirty for the floor.
Base Mavericks will be powered by a 2.5-litre inline-4 hybrid powertrain with a combined output of 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque sent to the front wheels through a CVT transmission. An available 2.0-litre turbo-4 with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission is capable of towing up to 4,000 lb with an optional tow package. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but an all-wheel-drive system with five drive modes including Normal, Sport, Slippery, Tow/Haul, and Eco will be an option.
