Elon Musk Confirms The New Tesla Roadster With SpaceX Package Will Go 0 To 60 In 1.1 Seconds - autojosh

During Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting yesterday, Elon Musk shared some long-term and short-term plans for the company. And in addition to the good news, there were some bad ones too. Musk said that Tesla is “building” another EV that will be unveiled very soon and also said that the second-gen Tesla Roadster’s production is delayed yet again.

Originally announced back in 2017, the car was supposed to hit the streets in 2020, but it’s 2023 and it’s nowhere near achieving that. In fact, the vehicle hasn’t gone into production at all. Even though Musk said this isn’t a promise to investors, he hopes that the engineering and design will be finished by the end of this year, with production starting in 2024.

While the world is now used to Musk’s unreliable product timelines, this time he might be on to something, as he seemed confident that engineering and design would be completed this year. Furthermore, Tesla should achieve volume production of the Tesla Cybertruck and Semi by 2024, allowing the automaker to focus on the Roadster next year.

Musk also referred to the car’s importance for Tesla’s bottom line, which he expects to be “modest.”

“It’s not even the icing on the cake, it’s the cherry on the icing on the cake, so it’s definitely not going to be a huge contributor to revenue and it will be a modest contributor to profitability, but it will be sick,” Musk said about the Roadster.
