Rolls-Royce Says A ‘Small Number’ Of Its Luxury Cars Were Aboard Ship That Went Up In Flames
Rolls-Royce confirms it has a ‘small number’ of its luxury cars aboard cargo ship that went up in flames.
Maker of $400,000 luxury vehicles told Bloomberg it is informing affected clients personally.
Both BMW and Mercedes Group have also confirmed they have several vehicles on the cargo ship.
Exact cause for the fire isn’t known yet, but it is believed it started from one of the 498 EVs onboard.

British luxury marque, Rolls-Royce, has confirmed it has a ‘small number’ of ultra-luxury cars onboard the ‘Fremantle Highway’, a cargo ship that caught fire off the Dutch island of Ameland on July 26.
While Rolls-Royce, the maker of $4500,000 luxury vehicles, is mute on the models or number of vehicles aboard the massive car carrier, a spokesperson told Bloomberg it is informing affected clients personally.
Both BMW AG and Mercedes-Benz Group, who have also confirmed they have several hundred vehicles on the Fremantle Highway, didn’t offer specific breakdowns by brand or model.

The exact cause for the fire isn’t known yet, but it is believed it started from one of the 498 Electric Vehicles (EVs) onboard. A total of 3,784 cars and construction vehicles were on board ship, according the ship’s operator.
“The fire started in some of the top decks, the chief executive of salvage company, Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, Peter A M Berdowski, told Bloomberg.
“We assume the eighth deck, that’s in a very poor state. Part of it is completely collapsed and it’s heavily, heavily destructed. We don’t know what the source was of the fire.
“Having said that, I think all experts with any knowledge on this topic agree that the transportation of electric vehicles introduces additional risks.”
