Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Kwara State Governor AbdulRasaq commissions Red Line Rail Ikeja overpass bridge.

Ikeja Flyover and its counterparts—Yaba and Oyingbo bridges—are pivotal to the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line.

LAMATA said that 37-km Red Line will tremendously improve transportation efficiency and reduce travel time.





Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday commissioned the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Ikeja Overpass Bridge, marking it the fourth bridge to be commissioned along the Red Line corridor.

Sanwo-Olu, who was joined by the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, said that the significant milestone is a step closer to the commissioning of the entire Red Line Rail Project in Lagos.

Speaking on the newly built Ikeja Overpass, Sanwo-Olu said :

“With the Ikeja Flyover’s commissioning, we’re witnessing the interconnection of critical pieces in our transit network. These bridges underscore our commitment to efficient and safe transportation for all in Lagos.





The Ikeja Flyover and its counterparts—Yaba and Oyingbo bridges—are pivotal to the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line, which is set to be ready for a test run in December, 2023.

In her welcome address, the Managing Director Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), said that Red Line will tremendously improve transportation efficiency and reduce travel time.

In her words :

“The Redline when opened for passengers’ operation will tremendously improve the GDP of the state. The entire 37-kilometer Red Line is expected to move more than one million passengers daily when fully operational, this train line will reduce congestion, emissions and facilitate easy movement for commuters and goods.

The event was graced by the Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly Dr Mudashiru Obasa, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, First Lady of Lagos State Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and the wife of the deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat.
