Export Of Scrapped Swedish Cars To Lucrative Nigeria Market Linked To International Fraud Groups

Criminals are using the proceeds from scams to buy scrapped Swedish cars, which are then sold in Nigeria.
Swedish Radio News reveals that deregistered cars are regarded as hazardous waste and is not allowed to be exported to Africa.
Police in Sweden noted that these cars, many of which are unfit for driving, still end up in Nigeria, posing various risks.
Criminals are using the proceeds from love scams to buy scrapped Swedish cars, which are then exported and sold in Nigeria, according to an extensive investigation conducted by Swedish Radio News.
Investigation from Swedish Radio News reveals that a number of people involved in the illegal export of old Swedish cars to the lucrative Nigerian market are also involved in international fraud syndicates.
According to the report :
“A car that is deregistered in Sweden is generally regarded as hazardous waste and not allowed to be exported to Africa,” adding that criminals behind the illegal trade buy up personal data from Swedish Transport Agency, which are then used to contact and persuade owners of older cars to sell.
“Criminals and people behind the illegal export of cars to Nigeria are buying up personal data from the Swedish Transport Agency, in order to contact registered car owners in Sweden and pester them into selling their vehicles,” Swedish Radio News reports.
The Swedish police also noted that several individuals involved in this illegal exportation to Nigeria are also part of international fraud syndicates.
The police stated :
“People involved in the illegal export of cars to Nigeria have been able to purchase detailed information about car owners. These cars, many of which have been illegal and unfit for driving for years, still end up in Nigeria, posing various risks.”
