Japanese giants Honda and Sony have revealed more details about their jointly developed electric vehicles.

Honda will launch a new 0 Series lineup that will comprise seven new EV models by 2031. Meanwhile, Sony and Honda’s joint venture, Afeela, is gearing up to unveil its first EV, a sleek sedan, in 2026. The 0 Series and Afeela EVs will share the same underlying platform.

Sharing platforms isn’t just about saving money; it’s about accelerating development. By pooling resources and expertise, Honda and Sony can shorten timelines, allowing them to bring their EVs to market faster. This is crucial for newcomers in a rapidly evolving EV landscape, as they otherwise risk releasing a product that’s already outdated.

Honda has earmarked 10 trillion yen (approximately €61 billion) for the 0 Series. These EVs will boast ultra-thin battery packs, compact e-axles, and lightweight body frames, all contributing to improved efficiency and range.

While specific details remain under wraps, Honda has confirmed that all 0 Series models will offer a range exceeding 483 km on a single charge. It’s speculated that they might share the same 91-kWh lithium-ion battery pack as the upcoming Afeela sedan.

The collaboration between Honda and Sony can be a turning point in the automotive industry. By combining their strengths in engineering and technology, these two iconic brands are poised to make a significant impact on the EV market. The shared platform promises more affordable electric cars and paves the way for faster innovation and a wider range of EV options for consumers.
