Porsche Expects Sales Decline Due To Shortage Of Aluminium Parts
Porsche is facing a shortage of aluminium parts for its cars after a major European supplier’s production facility was flooded. The shortage is hampering production, leading Porsche to expect lower-than-expected sales this year.
According to the Stuttgart-based company, the parts shortage could last for several weeks and affect the production of certain models. These disruptions to production and deliveries will probably not be fully resolved for the rest of the year. The unnamed supplier is invoking force majeure, according to Porsche.
The turnover for the whole of this year is now expected to be between 39 and 40 billion euros. Previously, an amount between 40 and 42 billion euros was predicted. Porsche will release figures for the first half of this year on Wednesday.
In a conversation with analysts, Porsche is said to have said that at least 10,000 fewer cars can be made in the second half of this year due to the parts shortage. According to an analyst at investment bank Bernstein, the case raises questions about how Porsche can be so dependent on a single supplier.
