German Automaker Audi Suspends Vehicle Exports To The US
Audi, the German car manufacturer, has suspended vehicle exports to the United States due to new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
An Audi spokeswoman confirmed today that all of the company’s vehicles that have arrived in the US should be kept at the point of delivery for now and should not be handed over to dealers.
Retailers in America should focus on reducing their current inventories, which are enough for about two months, Der Spiegel reports. Audi currently has more than 37,000 cars in stock in the US that are not subject to the new tariffs and can be sold at the old prices, the spokeswoman added.
Audi does not have a production facility in the United States. Instead, its vehicles for the American market are manufactured in Mexico, Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia. Recently, Volkswagen, Audi’s parent company, informed its dealers in the US about potential additional costs, as reported by the Wall Street Journal last week.
The Trump administration has imposed 25 percent tariffs on all cars manufactured outside the United States, and from May, the new levies will also apply to 150 categories of auto parts.
