Jaguar Land Rover Ceases Exporting Vehicles To The US

Jaguar Land Rover will pause exports to the United States in April due to US President Donald Trump’s import duties on cars not built in the United States, the carmaker confirmed after The Times newspaper reported.
JLR will now first examine, together with its business partners, the impact of the levies on its activities and how best to deal with this.
Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on foreign-made cars on Thursday. Ahead of the tariffs, the company said its luxury brands had global appeal.
In the fiscal year that ended in March, Jaguar Land Rover, owned by India’s Tata Motors, sold a total of more than 431,000 vehicles, almost a quarter of which were in North America. Jaguar Land Rover is said to still have a considerable stock of vehicles in the US that are not subject to tariffs.
Trump’s tariffs could have a major impact on the UK car industry, which directly employs around 200,000 people. According to industry body SMMT, the US is the second largest importer of British cars after the European Union, with a share of almost 20 percent.
