Porsche Macan EV Outsell Its Petrol Counterpart
Almost 60 percent of Macans sold this year do not have an internal combustion engine. By a small miracle, customers choose the battery model.
After the entire year of 2024 offered some highs for Porsche but at least as many lows, the results for the first half of 2025 are also mixed. However, the electric Macan makes a difference for the German brand.
The Macan recorded a 15 percent increase in sales, delivering 45,137 units over the January-June 2024 period, making it the brand’s best-selling model. It is worth noting that the Cufenhausen-based company’s basic SUV will be available in two versions from September 2024: an all-electric generation and, in select markets such as the US, the previously available generation with an internal combustion engine.
It should be noted that the Macan with petrol engines has not been available in the European Union since the middle of last year. Not because of emissions regulations, as some might suspect, but because of the cybersecurity law that came into effect in July 2024.
So it’s no surprise that the E-Macan fares better than its petrol-engined older brother. Thus, about 57 percent of Macan buyers opted for the electric model. This corresponds to a figure of 25,884 units sold. However, if the electric Macan is to reach the level of the older generation from 2023, when Porsche recorded more than 87,000 deliveries, it still has a long way to go.
The following should also be considered: If the Macan with a gasoline engine had been available in the 27 EU member states, it might have prevailed in its favour. As such, the electric version currently reaps more.
