First Glimpse : Mercedes-Benz teases upcoming Baby G-Class that will arrive within the next two years.

At the Munich show, Mercedes CEO said test mules of the baby G-Class would be appearing on roads very soon.

Baby G-Class will use “unique” parts, sport a design that is more modern than the current car that arrived last year.

Mercedes-Benz not only debuted the all-new GLC with EQ Technology (electric GLC) at the 2025 International Motor Show (IAA Mobility) but also gave us the first glimpse of the upcoming baby G-Class at the Munich show.

At the show, Mercedes shared a lone image showing the rear of the new vehicle that will arrive within the next two years. Speaking at the Munich show, Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius told Autocar that test mules of the baby G-Class would be appearing on roads very soon.

Speaking about the design, Chief Operating Officer Markus Schäfer said the baby G-Class will use “unique” parts and sport a design that is even more modern than the current car that arrived last year.

“You cannot change the G much: it’s iconic. I like the new [current G-Class]: that’s a modern G. On the little one, we will give a slight tweak: a bit more sharpness, a bit younger [headlight] graphics but still circle… a touch more modern than the big one,” said Schäfer.

“The G is a very special, authentic car, and the Mini G has to be authentic. So I cannot take just a platform, I cannot take an existing platform – I have to create my own. It’s a completely new development,” he added.

While the current G-Class is offered in both combustion and electric powertrains, the Mini G is expected to be sold as an EV, though Schäfer was coy when asked about its powertrains – “Stay tuned. I don’t want to go in to this detail,” he said.
