A camouflaged “baby Mercedes-Benz G-Class” has been spotted testing nearly two months after the German brand gave us the first glimpse of the upcoming Mini G at the 2025 International Motor Show (IAA Mobility).

While Mercedes shared a lone image showing the rear of the new vehicle at the Munich show in September, the wraps on this heavily-scaled down Electric G-Class prototype couldn’t hide the circular daytime running light.

“You cannot change the G much: it’s iconic,” Chief Operating Officer, Markus Schäfer, told Autocar about the design of the mini G at the Munich show.

“I like the new [current G-Class]: that’s a modern G. On the little one, we will give a slight tweak: a bit more sharpness, a bit younger [headlight] graphics but still circle… a touch more modern than the big one.”

Schäfer also noted the baby G-Class – which is expected to make its debut in 2027 – will use “unique” parts and sport a design that is even more modern than the current car that arrived last year.

While the current G-Class is offered in both combustion and electric powertrains, the Mini G is expected to be sold as an EV, though Schäfer was coy when asked about its powertrains – “Stay tuned. I don’t want to go in to this detail,” he told Autocar.
