Mercedes CEO Confirms Upcoming Baby G-Wagon
Mercedes-Benz CEO confirms an upcoming baby version of its iconic boxy G-Wagon SUV.
It is expected to be slightly shorter and priced lower than the bigger luxury Mercedes G-Wagon.
Current G550 starts at $139,900 while high-performance AMG G63 version starts at $179,000.
Baby Mercedes-Benz G-Class will arrive with a choice of gas-powered and electric setups, according reports.
German automaker, Mercedes-Benz, has confirmed that a “little” version of its military-grade iconic boxy G-Class SUV (popularly known here as the G-Wagon) is in the works.
“We have something in store for G fans around the world… there will be a little G, kind of the daughter or son of the big G”, CEO Ola Kallenius told CNBC following the reveal of the Concept CLA-Class at the 2023 Munich Motor Show.
German-language business newspaper, Handelsblatt, first reported an upcoming baby G-Class (that may arrive, possibly in 2026) in February, citing inside sources.

Inside sources told Handelsblatt that Mercedes-Benz Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ola Kallenius is the driving force behind new compact version of its G-Class off-road vehicle.
While there is no information yet, the newcomer is expected to be slightly shorter than the current G550 and AMG G63 and will reportedly use the upcoming MMA vehicle architecture used in the 2024 CLA-Class.
Unlike the G-Wagon that is only available with a combustion engine, the new SUV will arrive with a choice of gas-powered and electric setups, with reports indicating the baby G-Class will provide more than 310 miles of range on a single charge.
Again, the upcoming SUV is expected to be priced lower than the bigger luxury G-Wagon, which starts at $139,900 for the current G550 and $179,000 for the high-performance AMG G63 version.
