Yangwang U9 Xtreme Hits 308mph, Dethrones Bugatti Chiron SS 300+ As World’s Fastest Production Car
BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar hits 308mph on 14 September 2025 to set a new production-car top-speed record.
U9 Xtreme dethrones the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which managed to reach 307.77 mph on August 2019.
It comes few weeks after Yangwang U9 ‘Track Edition’ reached 293.5 mph to become world’s fastest Electric Vehicle (EV).

A Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) hypercar on 14 September 2025 managed to reach an astonishing speed of 496.22 km/h (308.4mph) at Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg to set a new production-car top-speed record.
Piloted by German race driver Marc Basseng, Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) dethrones the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ driven by Andy Wallace, who managed to reach 490.48 km/h (307.77 mph) on August 2019 at Volkswagen’s test facility in Ehra-Lessian.

“Ours was not simply to build a faster car, but to create a machine that redefines imagination,” BYD said while announcing its new accomplishment.

Speaking on the record-breaking feat, Marc Basseng said : “This record was only possible because the U9 Xtreme simply has incredible performance. Technically, something like this is not possible with a combustion engine. Thanks to the electric motor, the car is quiet, there are no load changes, and that allows me to focus even more on the track.”
Originally known as the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, the record-setting Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) is a production vehicle, with brand planning a limited series production run of no more than 30 units.

The U9 Xtreme features a 4 ultra-high-speed motors that churns out over 3,000-horsepower. For the record-breaking run, it rode on track-focused semi-slick tyre specially created in collaboration Giti Tire.
This new feat comes just few weeks after Marc Basseng drove a 3,000-hp Yangwang U9 ‘Track Edition’ to a new record speed of 293.5 mph (472.41 km/h), making it the world’s fastest Electric Vehicle (EV).
