Earlier this month, Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) hypercar, formerly known as the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, surpassed the 490.48 km/h (307.77 mph) achieved by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ on August 2019 to become the world’s fastest production car ever.

1) 490.48 km/h (307.77 mph) – New Speed Record For Production Car

A top speed of 490.48 km/h (307.77 mph) achieved by Yangwang U9 Xtreme at the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) facility in Germany is the highest recorded for a production car.
2) Track-focused Hypercar

U9 Xtreme is the track-focused and the most powerful variant of the standard and road-going U9 (Ultimate 9) all-electric supercar known for its ability to drive on 3 wheels as well as jumping off the ground.
3) First Electric Vehicle To Claim ‘Fastest Production Car ’ Crown

U9 Xtreme is the first Electric Vehicle (EV) to claim the ‘fastest production car’ crown, a title once held by petrol-powered hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ (in 2019) and Koenigsegg Agera RS (in 2017).

Behind the wheels of the U9 Xtreme is German race driver Marc Basseng, who had earlier driven the U9 Track Edition to 292mph to set a top-speed for an electric car and managed 233mph in the base U9 in 2024.
5) Powertrain

Featuring a world’s first 1,200V ultra high voltage platform, the U9 Xtreme features a 4 ultra-high-speed motors that churns out over 3,000-horsepower. In comparison, the base U9 puts out a paltry 1,288-horsepower.
6) World’s Fastest Electric Vehicle (EV)

This new feat comes just few weeks after U9 Xtreme in the guise of ‘U9 Track Edition’ reached 293.5 mph (472.41 km/h) to become the world’s fastest Electric Vehicle (EV).
7) Fastest Electric Car Around The Green Hell

In addition, the U9 Xtreme also conquered the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:59.157 minutes, beating the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s 7 minutes 04.957 seconds set earlier in the year to become the fastest electric production car around the famous 12.8-mile (20.8 km) Green Hell.
8) Limited To Just 30 Units

BYD’s luxury electric car brand says production of the Yangwang U9 Xtreme will be capped at just 30 units for buyers around the world.
9) Cost

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the standard U9 starts from 1.68 million yuan ($236,000 or EUR 215,000), so buyers should expect the U9 Xtreme to cost significantly more.
