BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme, The World’s Fastest Production Car, Aims to Break 500 km/h Speed Barrier
BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar, the world’s fastest production car, aims to break 500 km/h speed barrier.
Proposed record attempt is set for November at Germany’s ATP test track where it hit 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) last September.

BYD has announced new plans to exceed the 500 km/h (311 mph) speed barrier with its Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar. This milestone attempt is scheduled for November, coming 13 months after the 3,000-horsepower hypercar hit 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) to become the world’s fastest production car.
The proposed record attempt was announced by BYD Vice President Stella Li at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the limited-edition Chinese hypercar from BYD’s luxury brand made its European debut.

According to local news reports, following the U9 Xtreme’s record run last September, the testing team requested a second attempt at breaking the 500 km/h speed barrier after they discovered that the hypercar still possesses untapped speed and performance potential.
Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track will host the Yangwang U9 Xtreme lap run in November. This is the same venue where German race driver Marc Basseng piloted the hypercar to set a new production-car top-speed record last September.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is an ultra-rare, 30-unit Hypercar. Several orders were locked in at around $2.92 million each at the Beijing Auto Show. Each of these exclusive model is priced more than ten times the price of the “regular” YangWang U9, which is available from $263,000.
Featuring a world’s first 1,200V ultra high voltage platform, the U9 Xtreme features a 4 ultra-high-speed motors that churns out over 3,000-horsepower. In comparison, the base U9 puts out a paltry 1,288-horsepower.
