Yangwang U9 Xtreme’s record-breaking run wins TopGear.com’s “Moment of the Year 2025” award.
It dethroned the Bugatti Chiron SS 300+ as the world’s fastest production model – a feat that may be “just the beginning”.
Yangwang U9 Xtreme features a 4 ultra-high-speed motors that churns out over 3,000-horsepower.
For the record-breaking run, it rode on track-focused semi-slick tyre specially created in collaboration Giti Tire.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme’s record-breaking 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) world-record run at Germany’s ATP Papenburg test track in September has been recognised as the ‘Moment of the Year’ in the 2026 Topgear.com awards.
With the feat, the U9X, piloted by German race driver Marc Basseng, dethroned the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ as the fastest production model on the planet – a feat that may be “just the beginning”, according to Top Gear.

“We are deeply honored that Top Gear has named the U9 Xtreme’s world record run as the ‘Moment of the Year’, said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, adding that BYD, will continue to demonstrate what electric performance can deliver.
Jack Rix, Top Gear Editor in Chief said: “The U9 Xtreme makes everything with a combustion engine look a bit… weak. And it delivered a mic drop moment in Germany, hitting 308mph and sending shockwaves around the automotive world. We’ve got a feeling beating Bugatti at its own game is just the beginning.”

The U9 Xtreme features a 4 ultra-high-speed motors that churns out over 3,000-horsepower. For the record-breaking run, it rode on track-focused semi-slick tyre specially created in collaboration Giti Tire.
The record-breaking run on 14 September 2025 comes just few weeks after U9 Xtreme in the guise of ‘U9 Track Edition’ reached 293.5 mph (472.41 km/h) to become the world’s fastest Electric Vehicle (EV).
