3000-hp Yangwang U9 is now officially the fastest EV on the planet, hitting 293.5 mph (472.41km/h).

Driven by German professional driver Marc Basseng, who achieved the feat with U9 Track Edition on 8 August 2025.

Yangwang U9 Track Edition supercar features a quad-motor system that delivers over 3,000-hp.

For this record-breaking run, U9 rode on track-focused semi-slick tyre designed to improved stability during dynamic manoeuvres.

In addition, U9 Track Edition adopts the e4 Platform plus the“DiSus-X, and introduces “body posture control” to racetrack scenarios.

A Yangwang U9 ‘Track Edition’, a 3,000-hp Chinese supercar from BYD’s high-end sub-brand, has set a new global electric vehicle (EV) top-speed record of 293.5 mph (472.41 km/h) at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany.

Behind the wheel is German professional driver Marc Basseng, who achieved the feat with YANGWANG’s latest U9 Track Edition supercar on 8 August 2025 – making it the world’s fastest Electric Vehicle (EV).

“Last year, I thought I’d peaked. I never expected to break my own record so soon — but here we are, at the same track, with new technologies that have made it possible” said Basseng, who rode Aspark Owl SP600 to the previous global EV speed record of 272 mph (437.8 km/h) in 2024.

The U9 Track Edition features a quad-motor system that delivers peak power of 555kW per motor. This system churns out over 3,000PS – granting the vehicle an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne.

For the record-breaking run, U9 Track Edition rode on track-focused semi-slick tyre specially created in collaboration Giti Tire designed to improved predictability and stability during dynamic manoeuvres.

In addition, the U9 Track Edition, like the base U9 (Ultimate 9) all-electric supercar, adopts the e4 Platform plus the in-house developed active suspension system dubbed the “DiSus-X” technical architecture and introduces “body posture control” to racetrack scenarios.
