Ford Announced Yet Another Serious Recall Impacting 1.5 Million Vehicles

Ford is recalling nearly 1.5 million older vehicles due to defective rearview cameras that may show distorted images or fail altogether, increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall involves the following models: 2015-2016 Ford C-Max, 2015-2016 Ford Escape, 2015 Ford Explorer, 2019 Ford Fiesta, 2015-2019 Ford Flex, 2016 Ford Fusion, 2020 Ford Mustang, 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 Ford Taurus, 2015 and 2019 Lincoln MKT, and 2015 Lincoln MKZ.
Investigations into the allegations of defective rear cameras began in February 2025, after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) contacted the automaker. The NHTSA had received Vehicle Owner Questionnaires with complaints regarding the cameras across a range of models and model years.
The automaker began reviewing supplier documents, warranty data, and owner complaints. While it was “unable to identify a defect related to motor vehicle safety across all vehicle populations equipped with this analog camera,” the automaker decided to issue the recall.
Ford has reached an agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concerning rearview camera claims for vehicles from the 2015 to 2025 model years. According to Reuters, the agreement categorizes the affected vehicles into two groups: those that will be recalled and those that will be covered by a 15-year extended warranty for the cameras.
Ford has begun notifying vehicle owners about an issue through interim remedy notifications. Owners must take their vehicles to a Ford service center for inspection and repairs. A final remedy notice is expected by mid-next year.
