The Next Lamborghini Vehicle Won’t Be An SUV
It’s been almost ten years since Lamborghini added the Urus SUV to its lineup, and now the company’s CEO wants another type of product in the portfolio.
In an interview with Road & Track during last weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring, Stefan Winckelmann, Lamborghini’s chief executive, said: “What’s missing is a grand touring car. Two doors and 2+2.”
As Motor1 reports, Winkelmann said he is not interested in adding another SUV or even a sedan to Lamborghini’s lineup. The brand’s first electric vehicle, the Lanzador, was supposed to be a 2+2 grand touring car, but the manufacturer canceled production of its electric variant. Lanzador should still appear, but with a hybrid drive.
Last year, Winkelmann hinted that the Lanzador could ditch its electric powertrain in favor of a plug-in hybrid due to changing market conditions. At the time, he said it was “still very open” as to which powertrain the car would get. That decision has now been made, and a hybrid version should join Lamborghini’s lineup before the end of the decade.
