Police Seize 90 Supercars Worth $10.8M In London Crackdown On Illegal Driving And Nuisance (Photos)

More than £8 million (about $10.8 million) worth of supercars—including a £3.7 million (about $5 million) Ferrari Monza SP2—have been seized by the Metropolitan Police in a weekend crackdown that officers described as the “highest number and value of vehicles seized in the operation’s five-year history.”
During a weekend-long operation NoisyCar supported by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), police seized 90 supercars from marques including Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley, citing offences ranging from illegal driving to unroadworthy vehicles.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the operation, conducted between Friday, August 7, and Sunday, August 9, targeted uninsured drivers, anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving across Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea.

Special Chief Inspector Geoff Tatman, who led the operation, said: “We regularly hear from local people who are fed up with people driving cars dangerously in the area, or with modifications which make them a nuisance to those who live nearby.
“Through operations like this we’re arresting these drivers and seizing their cars so we can keep our roads safe and send clear message that we won’t put up with their reckless and dangerous behavior.”

Police said the Ferrari Monza SP2 was the most expensive of the confiscated vehicles, having arrived in the UK just a day earlier before its driver was stopped for driving without insurance and in breach of his licence conditions.
Angus Eaton, CEO at Motor Insurers’ Bureau, said: “Operations like these show that the rules apply to all motorists, regardless of the value of the vehicle they chose to drive. We know that while many offenders knowingly violate the law, others that aim to be law-abiding motorists may be caught out by making a genuine insurance mistake.
