Volkswagen ID R Smashes Nurburgring Electric Car Lap Record With A 6:05.336

Volkswagen has achieved another milestone in electro-mobility. Its 689hp ID R, with an average speed of 204.96 km/h, has smashed the electric lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with Porsche driver Romain Dumas lapping the 12.9-mile circuit in 6 minutes 05.336 secs.
The I.D. R time around the 156-corner race track eclipsed the previous 6 minutes 45.90secs mark set by the 1,341 hp Nio EP9 in 2017 by 40 seconds.
The electric Nurburgring mark is the latest record set by the ID R, which last year set a new outright hill record on the 12.42-mile Pikes Peak International Hill Climb course.
The Volkswagen ID R record-setting electric car is still not the fastest at the World’s famous track . Porsche, also owned by Volkswagen Group, holds that title. Last year, the Porsche 919 Evo set the all-time record of 5 minutes 19.55 seconds.
