Army Personnel, 13 Others Arrested For Vandalising Rail Tracks

Sirajo Suleiman, a Nigerian Army sergeant, has been arrested together with 13 other individuals in connection with the vandalism of railways around the country.
Suleiman is a member of the Nigerian Army’s Central Ammunition Division.
Three trucks laden with railway slippers, steel, and clips were recovered from the accused when they were apprehended by the Railway Police Command.
The accused, along with six other suspects, were apprehended by the command’s Kafanchan divisional headquarters on April 27, 2022.
When the policemen swooped on them, they were allegedly loading multiple rail plates of steel into two trucks in a bush near Camuru Station, Katchia Local Government Area of the state.
Identities of other suspected vandals are Idris Bawa, Idris Musa, Shamsu Abdulahi, Anthony Moses and Yunana Gaius.
Three weeks ago, the command’s Kafanchan Railway Police Division allegedly stopped a cement truck filled with railway slippers on the Bankin-Kaninkon-Kogi road.
The alleged vandals fled the scene after seeing the police and abandoned the truck.
Ahmed Tanko, a resident of Dangoma Village Jam’a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, was arrested during the inquiry and reportedly confessed to the crime.
Meanwhile, Yetunde Longe, the Commissioner of Police at the Railway Police Command headquarters, indicated that efforts to apprehend his fleeing accomplices were being stepped up.
Other suspects were apprehended by the Railway Command’s Kano division, the Dugbe Railway Police Division in Ibadan, and the Railway Command’s Offa division in Kwara State, according to her.
