BMW South Africa Starts Production Of The 4th-gen 2025 BMW X3 Ahead Of Global Export - autojosh

BMW South Africa starts production of the 4th-gen 2025 BMW X3 (G45) at its Plant Rosslyn, ahead of global export.

It comes barely a month after it ended the production of third-gen X3 (G01) on 28 August 2024 at the Plant Rosslyn.

Plant Rosslyn is the only facility in BMW Group’s global production network to build the X3 as a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV).

Plant Rosslyn builds the X3 for South Africa and around 30 export markets and 16 African countries, including Nigeria.





BMW Group South Africa has announced the start of production of the next generation 2025 BMW X3 (G45) plug-in Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) at its Plant Rosslyn in South Africa, ahead of global export on October 1st 2024.

The next chapter of the successful BMW X3 story began barely a month after BMW Group South Africa ended the production of the third-generation X3 (G01) on 28 August 2024 at the Plant Rosslyn.

BMW Group South Africa Plant Director Dr Niklas Fichtmüller commented:

“We have finally arrived at the start of production of the next-generation BMW X3. We have eagerly awaited and prepared for this, and I am thrilled that we can begin this next chapter of the successful BMW X3 story here in South Africa.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly and diligently to meet every milestone to this point. This moment encapsulates their commitment to providing a world-class product from South Africa for world.”





Established in 1968 as the first BMW Group production facility outside Germany, the Plant Rosslyn first produced the X3 in April 2018 after a R6.2-billion (equal to $386 million) investment.

Since then, more than 403,000 BMW X3s have been produced at Plant Rosslyn, which builds the X3 for South Africa and around 30 export markets and 16 African countries, including Nigeria.

Plant Rosslyn is the only facility in its global production network to build the BMW X3 as a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). Its modular production technique allows multiple models and drivetrains to be built in a single production line.
