Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a 25% passenger fare reduction for the regulated bus and rail transport services following appeals to extend the 50% rebate, which ended on Sunday November 5th 2023.

In a statement by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Monday November 6th, the State Government sited an increase in the pump of diesel from N867 in August to N1,300 in November 2023 for the withdrawal of the 50% rebate.

The statement by LAMATA titled with : “Lagos approves 25% fare rebate for regulated bus and rail transport, reads :

“Responding to calls for the reinstatement of the 50% rebate on
fare for regulated bus and rail transport, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the implementation of 25 per cent discount beginning Tuesday, 7th November 2023.

37-km Fourth Mainland Bridge Project To Create 5000 Jobs – LASG

The Lagos State Government says that the 37-kilometre, Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) project will help create about 5000 jobs for young engineers and that properties along the project corridor are expected to appreciate geometrically.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this during an interview on “Morning Delight”, a Lagos Television programme on Wednesday.

A contractor has already been selected for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge, Omotosho said, adding that the project will help take huge traffic off the First, Second and Third Mainland bridges, thereby reducing travel time for motorists.

Disposal of Overtime Cargo : Customs (NCS) Inaugurates Committee To Speed Up Port Decongestion In Nigeria

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has officially launched a committee on “Disposal of Overtime Cargo” to speed up the decongestion of overcrowded ports burdened with an excess of overtime cargo.

A statement by NCS said the development arises in response to the new Customs Act’s provisions, which empower the NCS to dispose of containers that have exceeded their allotted time within the ports.

The provision of the NCS Act 2023 mandated that the disposal of cargo exceeding its allotted time can now only occur through a court order.

Influx Of Water Hyacinth : LASG Closes Ikorodu Ferry Terminal, Offers Alternative Routes

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced a temporary closure of Ipakodo Ferry Terminal at Ikorodu due to the influx of water hyacinth that is obstructing smooth navigation of ferries along the route.

In a statement, LASWA advices passengers and operators not to attempt access or utilize the waterways through the Ikorodu Terminal during this period for their safety.

While announcing that that work will start immediately to get rid of the water hyacinth along the Ikorodu Terminal, the agency also offered two alternative jetties/terminals.

“We have recently opened the Ibeshe Terminal and also just co-operated with the Nigerian Navy and Association of Boat Operators Ikorodu Division to temporarily utilize the Majidun Jetty. The Ibeshe Terminal and Majidun Jetty are open for use as alternatives during this period.”
