Suspect Arrested For Killing Customs Officer While Trying To Smuggle In Toyota Corolla

Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) confirmed the killing of one of its personnel, Aminu Abdullahi, by a suspected car smuggler while trying to smuggle in a Toyota Corolla in Yauri Local Government Area of the state.

The Comptroller of Custom in charge of Kebbi Area Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.





Oramalugo also revealed that the suspect, Abdulwasiu Salawudeen, has since been arrested and brought to the command’s headquarters for further investigation.

Meshach Isinugo, a suspect arrested for absconding with a Mercedes-Benz GLB worth N55 million during a test-drive in Abuja denied stealing the car, saying that he only took the car to Delta State for business.

According to the PPRO for Delta command, the suspect was arrested in Benin City, Edo State while the stolen Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV was recovered in a bush along Oteri road, in Ughelli North in Delta State.

Speaking on why he drove away during a test-drive in Abuja, Meshach a.k.a Big Shark, said he decided to quickly use the car when the dealer failed to return quickly after going to get cash to buy fuel in a filling station.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has assured that the Agency would put up a position on the issue of 15% NAC Levy slammed on importation of vehicles under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.





Speaking to some licensed customs agents who welcomed him at the Tin Can Island Port on Tuesday, Adeniyi said said :

“I have heard your concerns and the complaints which your representatives have put across to us, anybody who is in business wants to make profit, and there is no crime when you do business and you make profit.

“However, the understanding that we must have is that your business must be conducted within the framework of the law.

“The NAC Levy and other ones are policies, we would also have a position on it and we would engage the government, the most important thing is for us to listen to you when you express these concerns and then we go and address it”.
