Angry drivers says ‘We need freedom!’, attack UK Government proposals to end car ownership.
MP had called for shared mobility to become the norm instead, including bike share schemes, car clubs.
It comes as residents in Coventry have expressed interest in giving up their cars in exchange for a £3,000 credit.
These mobility credits can be spent on public transport, taxis, bike share schemes or a car club.
Drivers in UK have attacked the new driving proposals by Transport Minister Trudy Harrison which could see the Government ending car ownership.
Harrison, the MP for Copeland in Cumbria, had last month during the mobility conference called for the UK go to move away from car ownership.
While addressing the future of personal mobility, she said it was necessary to ditch the :
“20th-century thinking centred around private vehicle ownership and towards greater flexibility, with personal choice and low carbon shared transport.”
Harrison called for shared mobility to become the norm instead, including bike share schemes, car clubs, shared rides, e-scooters and demand based transport.
It comes as over 300 residents in Coventry have expressed an interest in giving up their cars in exchange for a credit worth up to £3,000.
According to UK Express, these mobility credits can be spent on public transport, taxis, bike share schemes or a car club.
The pilot has been running since March 2021, and has to date accepted 147 applicants and crushed 73 cars, according to Transport for West Midlands (TfWM).
