The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has again approved a further extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows by 51 days.

The new enforcement date is now set for 2nd October 2025, from the the initial 30-day grace period set for May 1 2025, which was later extended by the Nigeria Police Force to Tuesday 12th of August 2025 (tomorrow).





A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive.

“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”

“The extension will also provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”

In a move to improve safety and regulatory compliance across the transportation sector, the Lagos State Government has mandated that all e-hailing operators licensed within the State to present their vehicles for inspection.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this at a recent engagement with the operators at the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa, Ikeja. According to him, any vehicle found unsuitable will not be allowed to operate on Lagos roads.

Osiyemi stated that the Ministry has observed the deplorable condition of some vehicles operated by drivers under licensed e-hailing platforms within the State, necessitating a comprehensive audit of all vehicles in use.





He further decried the growing safety concerns for motorists and the poor service delivery by some operators, stressing that the State Government is committed to safeguarding lives and property, and will not tolerate practices that endanger Lagosians.

The Lagos State Government has charged Driving School Operators in the State to impact qualitative driver’s education and desist from activities capable of undermining its efforts to improve the traffic situation and road culture among the motoring public on Lagos roads.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, gave the charge at the 2025 Train-the-Trainer Workshop organized by Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) for driving school operators and instructors operating in the State.

The event, themed, “Drivers Education: Panacea to Economic Growth and Development”, attracted top government officials from the Ministry of Transportation, road unions and about 200 Driving School Operators across the state.

Speaking at the event, Osiyemi explained that the workshop aligns with the United Nations Decade of Action on road safety advocacy campaign, which emphasises qualitative driver’s education as a crucial component of broader efforts to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities.
