Ford is recalling over 67,000 Mustangs, including the GTD, due to windshield wiper malfunctions in cold weather that may hinder visibility.

Ford is recalling over 67,000 Mustangs due to a wiper motor defect that causes malfunctions in cold weather. At temperatures of 32°F or below, communication issues can leave wipers stuck on high speed and disable the washer system. The recall affects Mustang models and Mustang GTDs. Ford expects to begin repairs by late March 2027.

  • 2025-2026 Ford Mustang GTD (289 units)
  • 2024-2026 Ford Mustang (67,553 units)

As of June 11, 2026, Ford was aware of 35 related warranty claims, but there were no reports of injuries or accidents.

Ford will notify affected owners by mail regarding the necessary dealership inspections. While interim correspondence is scheduled for distribution between July 8 and July 15, 2026, the permanent remedy is not expected to be available until late March 2027.

Should a repair be required, Ford will replace the wiper motor at no cost to the customer.

In the interim, owners may verify their vehicle’s status by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website. For further inquiries, please contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26C32.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford has initiated 56 vehicle recalls this year, significantly outpacing other manufacturers; for comparison, General Motors and Chrysler have each issued 19 recalls to date.

Ford maintains that this high volume of recall activity reflects a proactive commitment to quality control. The company also recently earned top marks as the leading mass-market brand in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, suggesting that the manufacturer is making positive strides in its long-term quality improvement efforts.

Nevertheless, the current windshield wiper defect remains a concern for Mustang owners in colder climates. Due to the delayed availability of a permanent remedy, many affected drivers will be required to navigate the upcoming winter season before a comprehensive repair can be implemented.
