Ford’s European Bronco Won’t Be A Real Bronco, But It Also Won’t Be Fake-Tough
A senior Blue Oval executive claims that part of the renowned off-road capability of the North American version will be carried over to Europe when Ford introduces the Bronco badge. Jim Baumbick, the head of Ford of Europe, is adamant that when the small SUV debuts in 2028, it will remain loyal to the Bronco brand and not just be another crossover with hiking boots for style credentials. Baumbick told Autonews Europe, “I can guarantee that this Bronco will live up to its reputation.” “We’ll be genuinely true to what Bronco is.”
However, despite the company’s strong language about authenticity, one unavoidable truth still looms over the project. Don’t anticipate this vehicle handling trails like the American Bronco if it indeed rides on the platform, as rumours are indicating.
The body-on-frame Ford Bronco sold in America and the unibody Bronco Sport offered beneath it are completely unrelated to each other. According to reports, the new SUV would instead employ Ford’s C2 design, which is also shared by the Ford Kuga, which is Europe’s take on the US-market Escape.
US Style Meets Euro Regulations
This entails a unibody chassis, electrified four-cylinder drivetrains, and road-focused dynamics instead of winches, detachable doors, locking differentials, and heavy-duty hardware. Nevertheless, Ford is well aware of what consumers desire in terms of aesthetics. Baumbick acknowledged that designers have to strike a balance between Europe’s more stringent efficiency regulations and customer expectations and Bronco’s hefty appearance, which was hinted at in a photograph earlier this week.
He told the news source, “The design limits inspire inventiveness.” “It’s an amazing chance for us to combine what makes a Bronco a Bronco with multi-energy technology in a way that’s uniquely positioned and proportioned to win in the European market.”
A crucial component of Ford’s larger European revitalisation is the Bronco plan. The corporation has abandoned well-known brands like Focus in favour of more lucrative “hero” cars with more distinctive personalities. Ford intends to emphasise the heritage and emotional aspects since it is aware that it cannot compete with Chinese companies like BYD on pricing alone.
Additionally, even if the Bronco moniker doesn’t currently have any meaning for European consumers, it will in the near future if Ford masters the visual and dynamic attitudes. Additionally, Ford sells a Bronco Basecamp for the Chinese market that is unrelated to the American Bronco or Bronco Sport and was created through the company’s joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC).
