FRSC To Rollout Special Number Plates For CNG-powered And Electric Vehicles
FRSC announce plans to rollout special number plates for CNG-powered And Electric vehicles.
Special plates are part of ongoing reforms in the administration of the National Drivers Licence and Number Plates.
FRSC is yet to announce the design of these special number plates, but in the UK, EVs use number plates with distinctive green element.
Also in Australia, electric vehicles (EVs) use plates with blue symbols while cars running on CNG use Blue number plates in India.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is set to introduce contactless capture for driver licensing and special number plates for CNG-powered and electric vehicles (EVs) as part of an upgraded system for vehicle registration.
Intended to help identify and categorize alternative fuel vehicles, the special plates are part of ongoing reforms in the administration of the National Drivers Licence and Vehicle Number Plates.
The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, made this known today 8 December 2025 when he paid a working visit to the Premium Times Headquarters, where he commended the organisation’s leadership for its commitment to objective reportage, investigative journalism, and fact-driven storytelling.
He noted that responsible journalism remains a cornerstone of national development and applauded Premium Times for consistently upholding the highest ethical standards in the media landscape.
The Corps Marshal reiterated the Corps’ determination to strengthen efficiency, embrace innovation, and enhance public trust in FRSC service delivery nationwide.
FRSC is yet to announce the launch date and the design of these special number plates, but in the UK, EV number plates features distinctive green element or blue symbols in Australia while cars running on CNG use Blue number plates in India.
