Just 1,200 Miles Away, A Ram 1500 Hurricane Lawsuit Claims Problems
Stellantis’s 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six, once touted as a powerful V8 alternative, is now the subject of a class-action lawsuit. Owners of 2025 Ram 1500 pickups allege premature engine failure, citing issues like stalling, power loss, and persistent diagnostic errors. Here is a closer look at the claims.
The company faces a class-action lawsuit over alleged engine defects in 2025 Ram 1500 trucks equipped with the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six. Plaintiffs report premature failures, including stalling, power loss, and persistent electrical errors, claiming the manufacturer concealed these issues despite widespread reports of defective control modules. Notable cases include owners experiencing severe faults like overheating, limp mode, and total safety system failures shortly after purchase, leading to claims of significant vehicle depreciation.
While the scope of these engine issues is unclear, some NHTSA reports cite stalling in Ram 1500 and Jeep Wagoneer models, though not all specify the Hurricane engine. Consumer Reports gave the Ram 1500 a reliability score of 5/100, citing issues like melting catalytic converters and coolant leaks. Conversely, many Reddit users report that their Hurricane engines have been reliable, suggesting that Stellantis’s broader electrical issues may be a greater concern than the inline-six engine itself.
