GM-backed $4,500 Wuling Electric Micro Car Sets Record Sales In China : 395,451 In 2021
China’s Wuling, a tiny $4,500 electric car backed by GM sold a record 50,561 cars in Dec. and 395,451 in 2021.
Wuling is made as a joint venture between SAIC, Wuling, and US car giant, General Motors (GM), since 2020.
The four-seat Electric Vehicle has a starting price of just 28,800 yuan ($4,465) and $5,000 for the version with A.C.
It comes with two battery options, including the 9.3-kWh battery-pack (120 km) and a 13.9-kWh battery (170 km).
The electric powertrain offers a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
The Wuling Hongguan MINI EV closed the year 2021 as the best-selling electric vehicle in China after 50,561 units of electric vehicle were sold (up 42.9% year-over-year) in December, which is an all-time monthly record.
SAIC sold 395,451 units of the battery electric Micro car in China in 2021, up 250.7% year-over-year, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
But this number will rise to more than 500,000 units since the sale of the Mini EV began in June 2020 (19 months).
The four-seat Hongguan MINI, locally known as Wuling, is made as a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Liuzhou Wuling Motors, and US car giant, General Motors (GM), since 2020. It has a starting price of just 28,800 yuan ($4,465) and $5,000 for the version with A.C.
It comes with two battery options, including the 9.3-kWh battery-pack, which goes 120 km (75 miles), and a 13.9-kWh battery, will offers 170 km (106 miles) range on single charge. The electric powertrain offers a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
In total, SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture’s (between SAIC, GM and Liuzhou Wuling Motors) sold a total of 60,372 EVs in December, which is also a new record.
